STAIN
Act quickly when stains occur. A quick response to stains makes it less likely to set. Use a knife to scrape residue. Wet a cloth with cold water and place another cloth beneath the stain. Dab firmly all over the stain repeatedly to lifting the stain rather than rubbing it in. Turn the garment inside out and repeat these steps on the reverse. Unfortunately, there’s no universal treatment for varying fabrics and stains.
WASH
Wash only when necessary. Use mild, neutral detergent. Avoid overuse: excess detergent does not improve cleanliness and can damage fibres over time. Turn your machine to 30° to reduce colour fading and use less energy. Always separate colours and wash similar shades together, turning dark, zipped or embellished clothing inside out. Invest in a wash bag to protect your favourite pieces and collect microplastics. We recommend using a Guppy Friend washing bag when washing garments that contain plastic fibres. If needed, use organic softeners. Substances to avoid are: optical brighteners, chlorine, synthetic perfumes and colours, parabens, phosphates, petrochemicals and sulphates.
DRY
Air drying is always the better option. Instead of putting everything into the tumble dryer, gently reshape garments and hand dry. This maintains the integrity of your pieces and prevents fibre fatigue, shrinkage, and distortion.
IRON
Many garments require little to no ironing when washed gently and dried correctly. If needed, steaming is preferred as it's gentler. Iron only on low heat, turn your garment inside out and iron on the reverse. Use a pressing cloth to protect overlay details and delicate fabrics.
CLEAN
We don't recommend dry-cleaning when majority of garments are machine washable. Dry cleaning is unavoidable to maintain a long life for some styles and speciality fabrics. Wait to clean until absolutely necessary, ideally choosing an environmental-friendly dry cleaner, that offers non-toxic and eco-friendly alternatives that use CO2 or water as the primary solvent.
STORE
Keep clothes away from damp, sunlight and heat. If possible, invest in wooden or padded hangers and avoid overcrowding your wardrobe to give your pieces room to breathe. Hang structured fabrics, like shirts, outerwear and pants, on hangers as it will help them stay wrinkle free. Fabrics that easily stretch should be folded or rolled in your wardrobe. This goes for t-shirts, sweatshirts and especially knitted sweaters. Deter moths with lavender sachets.
