Sustain-ability

PETRA RAISSA is an independent fashion practice run on a small, intentional scale. Every piece is designed, sourced, made, finished, and fulfilled with care, responsibility, and thoughtfulness. Sustainability, ethics, and culture are practical dimensions woven into how the brand exists day to day, shaped by an awareness of fashion’s social, ecological, and historical contexts. Sustainability here is understood as an ongoing practice; one that remains critical, reflexive and responsive.

Business

PETRA RAISSA operates as an e-commerce-first studio practice. Working in a closely connected scale enables low-volume production, reduced waste, and direct oversight across design, sourcing, production, and fulfilment.

The integrity of PETRA RAISSA is informed by intersectional values: care, collaboration, empathy, and consciousness. While PETRA RAISSA is not a collective or organisation, we are shaped by politics that reject exploitation, domination, and extractive systems.

PETRA RAISSA focuses on achievable, resourceful actions within its current scale - including low-waste studio processes, responsible sourcing, minimal, handmade packaging, recycling, reuse, and continuous learning.

Supply Chain

PETRA RAISSA follows a seasonless, small-batch production model allowing time for considered design, careful sourcing, and high-quality construction, without cutting corners to meet artificial deadlines.

We source from local vendors  and garments are currently produced in our North London studio. This approach enables closer oversight of production quality and ethics.

PETRA RAISSA traces each garment’s supply chain as thoroughly as available, working back to the earliest accessible stages of production. Clear information about where materials come from and how garments are made is shared on individual product pages.

Materials

Material selection at PETRA RAISSA is based on environmental impact, durability, functionality, and suitability for each garment. We work primarily with organic, recycled, regenerated and low-impact mono-fibres, which offer properties such as being non-toxic, compostable, recyclable, renewable, and durable. Where available, certifications are prioritised.

PETRA RAISSA acknowledges that no material is entirely impact-free, or neutral solutions. Sourced material choices are made thoughtfully, balancing environmental responsibility with performance, longevity, and real-world constraints. Detailed material information is shared transparently on individual product pages to support informed purchasing. Explore more information on our fulfilment practices here.

Cruelty-Free and Welfare

We do not use real leather, fur, pelts, angora, horn, shell, or materials derived from endangered species. When animal-derived fibres are used, they are selected carefully and sourced from suppliers that prioritise animal welfare, such as mulesing-free wool or peace silk.

Importantly, PETRA RAISSA recognises that cruelty-free claims can obscure other forms of harm. Virgin synthetic “vegan” materials are avoided due to their reliance on fossil fuels and contribution to microplastic pollution. Recycled options are prioritised when synthetics cannot be avoided, alongside guidance for responsible garment care.

Social Responsibility

PETRA RAISSA prioritises fair exchange, transparency, and labour welfare. While the studio is small, we work only with suppliers and partners who align with ethical labour practices and human dignity to the best of available knowledge and access. Currently, we cannot personally audit every step of a global supply chain.

Inclusivity and accessibility are active values at PETRA RAISSA. We strive to continually improve our efforts to remove barriers so individuals are represented, able to thrive and fully participate in our offerings. As PETRA RAISSA evolves, we welcome conversation around how to do better.

Circularity

Circularity is embedded in respect for materials, labour, and land. Garments are designed with durability, repairability, and end-of-life considerations at the forefront. Particular attention is paid to efficiency and waste reduction during production. Mono-fibre materials are prioritised where they support recyclability and longevity.

Beyond production, PETRA RAISSA encourages slower and regrowth relationships with clothing - supporting care, repair, and continued use rather than disposability. Every item can be returned to the brand for reuse, recycling, or redesign, reinforcing a closed-loop approach without placing undue burden on the consumer.

Transparency

We communicate openly about how garments are made, where materials come from, and what sustainability measures are currently achievable at this scale. While exact environmental impact metrics are not available for every garment, PETRA RAISSA approaches impact and traceability with relationally rather than distance or speculation.

PETRA RAISSA recognises that sustainability is not a fixed destination, nor a label that can be claimed. Working at a small scale allows for care and accountability, but it does not remove the brand from wider systems of extraction and inequality. This work remains ongoing, imperfect, and open to critique. PETRA RAISSA remains committed to learning, unlearning, and responsible making.
